Tom
One of the best strategies for PET Reading Part 2 is to read the bios (the character descriptions) before you read the longer texts. This approach helps you focus on specific details while reading the texts, which can save you time and improve your accuracy.

When you read the bios first, you know exactly what information you're looking for, such as someone’s preferences, needs, or restrictions. Instead of reading all the texts in full and then trying to remember the details, you’ll be able quickly to identify which text fits the bio.
how this helps
When you focus on the bio (people’s needs) first, you train yourself to scan the texts more effectively. You’ll know which details are important and which can be ignored. This technique will help you avoid unnecessary confusion and prevent you from getting distracted by information that doesn’t match the question.
example
Let’s say you have this description of a person:
Tom: “Tom enjoys playing sports but doesn’t have much free time. He’s looking for something active he can do during his lunch break at work.”
Before you read any of the longer texts, you already know a few key things:
- Tom wants something active (so sports or physical activity is a must).
- He has limited time, so it should be a quick activity.
- He wants to do it during his lunch break, so it should be close to his workplace or not too time-consuming.
Now, when you read the longer texts, you won’t be wasting time reading about activities that take up a lot of time or are too far away. You’ll be focused on finding something that matches Tom’s needs perfectly.
Text A: “Our local football club welcomes anyone who wants to join. We play every weekend at the city stadium, and we’re always looking for new members. It’s a great way to stay fit and make friends.”
Text B: “We offer lunchtime yoga classes in the city center. These short, 30-minute sessions are perfect for people who work nearby and want to stay active during the day. No experience is necessary, and it’s a great way to recharge before heading back to work.”
Text C: “Looking for a high-energy activity? Try our kickboxing class, held every Tuesday evening. It’s a great workout and ideal for anyone who wants to learn self-defense and improve fitness.”
Text D: “For those who love running, join our weekend running club! We meet in the park every Saturday morning and cover different routes to keep things exciting.”
With Tom’s description in mind, you would immediately eliminate Texts A, C, and D, since they either take place in the evening or on weekends, which doesn’t suit his need for a lunchtime activity. The correct match is Text B, as it’s a short, 30-minute yoga session during the day that he can fit into his lunch break.

in summary
By reading the bios first, you will have a clear idea of what information is relevant before diving into the texts. This strategy helps you stay focused, match descriptions more accurately, and avoid wasting time on irrelevant details. The more you practice this technique, the faster and more efficient you’ll become at finding the right answers!
